Quote for the Day
“Resilience is accepting your new reality, even if it’s less good than the one you had before. You can fight it, you can do nothing but scream about what you’ve lost, or you can accept it and try to put together something that’s good.”
Elizabeth Edwards
Boosting your Resilience
Having survived the pandemic, we continue the fight with inflation, unstable supply chains, energy costs, and the uncertainty caused by the war in Ukraine. We are all low on energy, so we have to learn to boost our resilience
One definition of Resilience is having the ability to bounce back from adversity.
We are in an ultra-marathon not a sprint. There is light at the end of the tunnel. The recession will be shallower than predicted. We have to conserve our energy, keep our head together, retain our optimism, and survive until the upturn comes hopefully later this year.
Here are some ideas to help you:
1 Bouncing Back from Adversity – We can control our behaviors thoughts and beliefs. Make a start by measuring our current ability by scoring ourselves out of ten on each of the following questions:
Where are we now on our beliefs and behaviors?
Where are we now on our problem-solving skills?
Where are we now on managing strong feelings?
2 Managing Stress – Some stress is generally good for us but too much is harmful – as we are subject to more stress, our performance improves until we achieve Peak Performance. After this point, any more stress is counterproductive. Our performance level falls, we go through Free Floating Anxiety, then on to an inability to control our emotions, and, finally, a complete personality change.
We need to be aware of the early warning signs not just for ourselves but also everyone in our team and ask – What can we do to cope better with stress and what can we do to reduce its effects on us?
3 Building Capability – We need to practice the four-step problem solving process namely – Mind Map, Pareto, Forcefield and One Page Plan.
4 Overcoming Barriers – Life is full of barriers. The number one fear is public speaking, so we procrastinate and put it off but, eventually, we have to make that speech. It’s much easier to face up to the challenge at the earliest opportunity and grow through the experience.
5 One Page Resilience Plan – Work on your ninety-day action plan.
