Prioritisation – We are all busy but are we busy doing the right things?
My Professionals Coaching Group Workshop in March was about Prioritisation.
We had a lively discussion that covered lots of ground but let me introduce you to two very powerful tools to focus your efforts.
The Pareto Principal is also called the 80/20 rule. It works on the basis that a few causes trigger most of your outcomes.
When Filofax was in financial trouble in 1990 the consultants found that 93% of sales came from just 4% of the stock lines and 91% of sales came from 20% of their customers.
When the consultants spoke to these key customers they found that Filofax wasn’t worth the 50% premium over its competition but about 10% to 15% so they reconfigured the offer and reduced the cost base accordingly.
How does this work in your business? I recommend you ask yourself the following questions
- Which of my clients or customers account for most of my sales?
- Which of my products or services account for most of my profit?
- Which of my staff account for most of my profit?
- Which of my activities account for most of my profit?
Eisenhower Box
Dwight D. Eisenhower was the 34th President of the United States serving from 1953 until 1961. Before becoming President, he was a general in the United States Army and was the Allied Forces Supreme Commander during World War II. He also later became NATO’s first supreme commander.
He had to make tough decisions continuously about which of the many tasks he should focus on each day. This finally led him to invent the world-famous Eisenhower principle, which today helps us prioritise by urgency and importance.
How can you use these two powerful tools help you to achieve a better FOCUS and so achieve your Business Goals?

Online Courses
I have been running a successful Coaching Group for Professionals which meets four times a year for half a day to work on common issues as well as one 2 one coaching. Action Learning Workshops mean I bring along tools and processes that help us solve the problem that we are addressing and every member takes away something of value to them and their business.
