Ideas for Success – May 2021

Leadership - MRWCS Leadership

Quote for the Day

“Mental Wellbeing needs a great deal of attention. It’s the final taboo and it needs to be faced and dealt with”

Adam Ant

Mental Wellbeing

The topic for my Growth and Profit Group Workshop in April was Mental Wellbeing. I was assisted on this important topic by Charlotte Dean from P3 People Management.

The workshop covered nine key modules from the Mental Health Toolkit for Employers issued by Business in the Community – Don’t be put off by the size of the document (68 Pages) just use what is relevant to the size and scale of your business. Here is the link to it – https://www.bitc.org.uk/toolkit/mental-health-for-employers-toolkit/.

The participants went away with ideas to help them start their Mental Health Plan.

The Cost of Poor Mental Health – Mental health costs £45 billion a year and 30% of the workforce have been formally diagnosed with a mental health condition at some point in their life. On the other hand, good mental health can contribute to a 20% improvement in productivity.

Making a Commitment to Mental Health – Ensure buy-in at all levels in your business including senior management. Engage and consult employees about the planned approach.

Building your Approach – Assess employee needs and co-produce a plan with them.

Create a Positive Culture – Support and value your employees. Reduce Stress using the HSE Stress Standards. Promote healthy behaviours, both at work and at home. Communicate often about the benefits of wellbeing.

Provide Support and Training – Build your approach to Mental Health into your onboarding process. Encourage dialogue about mental health at performance reviews. Train your Managers and mental health first aiders.

Manage Mental health – Communicate and be prepared to listen. Tackle the stigma in what is the last taboo.

Provide the Right Support – Provide a confidential support service and consider using an Employee Assistance Programme.

Help People to Recover – In severe cases, support your employees back to work.

Evaluate your Programme – Review your programme annually and share best practice.

If you would like help with creating a Mental Health Programme, Charlotte is happy to help you at charlotte@p3pm.com

The PortfolioExec Business Lounge

I am delighted to be the facilitator of PortfolioExec Ltd’s first Business Lounge.

It’s lonely at the top! As a leader, you are expected to be all-knowing and infallible. You are not always able to discuss the things that REALLY matter to you with your staff. So, who do you confide in and bounce ideas off? What are the blockages that stop you from achieving your goals? What are your goals and when did you last review them? How do you stay focussed?

Membership of The PortfolioExec Business Lounge will allow you to access other senior leaders’ experience, knowledge, and wisdom, and share your own, helping to develop the expertise and proficiency of everyone in the room.

With 5 – 8 businesses in The Lounge, challenges and successes can be given the time they require. Our professional facilitators will ensure The Lounge is a safe, relaxed environment where you can be open and honest. The discussions at each session will inform the next month’s agenda. You will have up to 2 seats in The Lounge, should you wish to bring in any of your managers to a session. Membership of The Lounge allows you access to a range of benefits.

For our first Business Lounge, we are offering a bursary for the first 3 months to each member who signs up for 12 months. Apply via our simple application process: –

If you would like to discuss the challenges and opportunities for your business or would like more information about the Business Lounge, please contact me on  alan@mrwcs.com.
