My November Coaching Group for Professionals was on the topic of Cyber Security.
Earlier this year I was the subject of an unsuccessful attempt at an impersonation fraud and it made me think how vulnerable we all are. I invited a guest presenter, Carl Ensor from Fabric IT to talk to us about this challenging subject.
The Scale of the Problem:
- We are all vulnerable – especially those under thirty who live their lives online
- 71% of cyberattacks target small businesses
- 55,000 devices are compromised by ransomware every month
- We are only as strong as our weakest link
- It only takes hackers four minutes to get into your network, but it takes you 99 days to discover that they are in
- Most of us have weak passwords
- 53% of users accidently share information
- 91% of cyberattacks begin with a phishing email
- 75% of people only use three or four passwords across all their accounts
What action can we take to defend ourselves:
- Use OneDrive instead of Dropbox – its more secure
- Control access to your network and your data
- Don’t be so trusting – if in any doubt don’t open it
- Strengthen your passwords – use three random words
- Use a password manager – see the featured Video
- Adopt identity driven security for remote access
- Have remote wipe on mobile devices
- Use encryption
- Have a recovery plan ready
